How to fit and install a bath screen

By Benjamin Clarke | Published on 8th July 2020

Many people have baths at home and would like to install a bath screen to stop water from making a mess outside the bath when they have a shower. However, a lot are put of by not having the knowledge of how to fit a bath screen themselves.

In this article, we'll run you through a simple step by step guide of how to fit a bath screen in your bathroom, allowing you the choice of having a bath or a shower.

  • Choose your bath screen
  • Position your bath screen
  • Fix the channel to the wall
  • Fit the screen door

Choose your bath screen

There are a few options when it comes to choosing the right bath screen for your bathroom.

Some have a curved edge and some have a straight edge. This difference is aesthetic rather than functional so you should choose the style you like best.

Most bath screens are around 1400mm in height, but they can vary slightly in width.

You want to make sure that you are happy with the width of your bath screen so that water doesn't splash out beyond the end of it onto the floor.

Position your bath screen

The positioning depends mainly on whether or not there is a lip on the edge of your bath.

If it does have a lip then your bath screen will need to be positioned so that the screen sits inside of the lip.

If there is no lip, your screen should be positioned around 4 - 5mm from the edge of the bath.

Fix the channel to the wall

The channel is the metal strip that is fixed to the wall to hold your bath screen in place.

  • Measure a straight line up the wall from the bath. You can use a spirit level to ensure the line is perfectly straight.
  • You'll need a drill to drill holes into your wall so that you can fix the channel to the wall. Make sure you are not drilling into any pipes or cables and use the correct type of drill bit for the material you are drilling into.
  • Insert wall plugs to keep the screws in place if necessary and add some fixing silicone to the back of the wall channel for extra security.
  • Press the wall channel up against the line you drew and drive the wall fixings provided with your bath screen into the wall.
  • Press against the full length of the wall channel with your has to ensure the silicone comes into complete contact with the wall and clean off any silicone that squeezes out.

Fit the screen door

  • Lift the door up and slide into the channel. You might find it easier to do this by getting inside the bath. Ensure it's seated square against the wall and the bath
  • Use the provided screws or rivets and fix the panel according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Add sealant silicone along the edge of the channel and bottom edge of the screen for a watertight seal.
  • Allow to dry for 24 hours before using your bath or shower
