How to create an amazing spa-style bathroom

How to create an amazing spa-style bathroom

By Benjamin Clarke | Published on 3rd July 2018

There is nothing like a nice spa break to a posh hotel somewhere in the countryside to recharge those batteries. Wouldn’t it be great if you could check in to your own bathroom and give yourself that spa-like tonic every day? Turning that dreary bathroom in to a sparkling spa will not be as difficult or as expensive as you might think. The benefits and rewards you will achieve from creating a relaxed space will outweigh any problems you may foresee.

Creating spa-like style

Oscar Wilde wrote that, “we live in age of surfaces,” and the key to your spa bathroom is making sure that it looks like a spa bathroom. So you don’t have to spend a fortune on that roll top bath or stylish sink. The decoration does not have to cost the earth either if you shop around. Look for wallpaper, flooring and tiles that you know will bring you that spa-like feel. If you have ever visited a spa you will know that the decor is simple. All you need to is to paint the walls off-white or biscuit colour. If you want you could introduce some wood panelling in there as you want to create a natural space. You want your room to have an organic feel. You should be as relaxed in your spa-bathroom as you would be if you were on your sun lounger on warm sunny day.

Getting down to the nitty-gritty

Priority number one is to find that roll top bath. The bigger it is the better as you want to create a luxurious feel for your room and nothing speaks luxury like a big bath. Also you should see if you can get hold of an oversized shower with body jets so that when you have your morning shower you will receive a spa-like massage at the same time. If you are going for a more modern feel then any standalone bath will help to create the spa-like feel. All you need to do is think minimalistic, think Scandinavian. On that theme you should look into getting some stylish designer heated towel rails to heat your spa-bathroom. How many stylish spa hotels do you see without a selection of heated towel rails? Their spas are always at an ambient temperature and you can get the same type of clean warmth in your room with heated towel rails and radiators. It could actually save you money if you decide to heat your wet room this way.

The final touches

The devil, as they say, is always in the detail. It is in those extra little touches that will really make your spa bathroom come alive. For instance, if you invest in posh taps your basin or bath will, in true Cinderella fashion, suddenly appear glamorous and sexy. A groovy old fashioned gleaming brass tap will set off your roll top bath perfectly and give you a tingle of pleasure every time you run your bath. Finally, make sure it is bright and well lit so that it makes you feel good when you walk in your new home based spa. All that remains then is to put your fluffy bath robe on and relax.
