How to choose the right kind of bathroom flooring

How to choose the right kind of bathroom flooring

Apart from when you clean it you probably never consider your bathroom floor. Why would you? If you were to draw up a list of important things for the bathroom it's likely the flooring would come near the bottom. When updating your bathroom you may even forget about the floor completely. Admittedly, compared to the bath, basin and toilet the floor doesn't seem important but a good floor can really enhance the way your bathroom looks.

Stylish but practical

Some might think that you can’t go for style when choosing your bathroom flooring. Surely, they may say, you need something that is practical for what is obviously a wet room. But you can choose fashionable flooring that looks great. It can still be robust and look good at the same time. There are a lot of options and it really depends on what fits in with your style and your bathroom.

Modern flooring

A popular choice when replaced flooring is a plain wood effect laminate floor design. The general style  creates a natural look to the room and the flooring really helps bring this to life. Obviously real wooden floors would not be a practical solution for a bathroom. But a quality wood effect laminate that matches the wood of the vanity units really helps to give the room a soothing earthy vibe. In Scandinavia, it's very common to have limestone paving slabs covering the floor. Minimalism is popular in the Nordic countries and you will often see simply a shower, basic and toilet - no shower. Although you may think this might make the bathroom feel cold, instead there is something about stone that makes the room feel more decadent and hedonistic It can add to the chic modernistic feel of the rest of the bathroom and give that typically Nordic impression.

Underfloor heating

The design of the best flooring you may ever experience probably doesn't really matter. It could be a very nice wooden style floor not unlike the one you have at home. However, what might raise it above other floors you've experienced is the magic that goes on underneath. This magic is more commonly known as electric underfloor heating. How glorious it is to step out of the bath on a cold winter’s morning and place your foot on a nice warm floor. Coupled with a nice warm and cosy room,  the experience can be considered quite magical. So, put the floor at the top of your list because what goes on under your feet really does matter.
