How much does a bath cost to run?

How much does a bath cost to run?

By Benjamin Clarke | Published on 10th August 2021

Having a bath is an absolute pleasure and it's one of the most relaxing things we can do in the confines of our own homes. But have you ever stopped to think how much a bath costs to run? In this brief article, we'll look at exactly that.

Heating and water

The two main expenses when running a bath is the cost of heating the water and the cost of the water itself. You might be surprised to learn that it often costs more for the water than it does for the cost of heating the water. Water charges can vary around the country, but even taking this in consideration the heating still works out cheaper.

Per bath cost

A study in 2015 showed that for a bath of 88 litres with water at 41°C would cost just over 37p per bath.

Per year cost

The same study assumed that if you had two 88litre baths per week at 41°C, the cost would be £37.03 per year.

Of course, in the intervening years, inflation would mean that costs have increased somewhat, but these figures do give you an excellent idea of what it costs to run a bath. If you have a larger bath than 88 litres, you'd also have to increase the cost

Whether these figures influence how often you take a bath is up to you, but we consider less than £50 per year for something so pleasurable to be excellent value for money.

Water-saving measures

If you wanted to cut down on your costs and the amount of water that you use, an easy way to do this would restrict yourself to one bath per week. People of a certain age might also remember the days when they had to share bath water with their parents or siblings, though this surely isn't a necessary sacrifice in the 21st Century.

Other water-saving methods could be achieved in other ways around your bathroom, such as:

  • Installing a water-saving bathtub
  • Fitting a thermostatic shower
  • Have a single lever mixer tap
  • Add a dual flush toilet

At Luna Spas, we understand that a bath has to be a luxury experience; that’s why we sell a range of luxury, water-saving whirlpool baths that create a spa-like experience at home. And while it is true that a bath will use more water than a shower, you don’t have to waste water to enjoy a bath.

We have a range of eco whirlpool baths that combine design and resource to create baths that use up to 31% less water and will see you saving water in the long run.

Our eco-baths have two straightforward features that help to reduce the amount of water they use:

  • Our eco-baths are shallower than their traditional counterparts, although they don’t noticeably look smaller.
  • These baths also have a deeper angle on the back. This also helps to bring down the volume of water used, again with virtually no noticeable difference in appearance.
