Creating a low maintenance bathroom

By Benjamin Clarke | Published on 5th January 2021

Because we use the bathroom so much, it's inevitable that it will need cleaning more often than other rooms in the house.

As cleaning the bathroom is unlikely to spark joy in many people, we've written this article on creating a bathroom that is low maintenance and requiring as little cleaning as possible.

Bathroom wall panels

Mouldy and dirty grouting is one of the most annoying problems that occurs in bathroom. No matter how much you keep your bathroom clean, if your grouting has become dirty, it undermines all of your efforts and brings the tone down.

PVC wall panels are a brilliant way of getting round this problem and eradicate the need for grout. They're easy to install and simply wipe clean, making them incredibly low maintenance.

Plus many styles look just like tiling so you don't have to miss out on the traditional bathroom aesthetic!

Streamlined toilets

One of the worst jobs when cleaning a bathroom is reaching underneath the toilet to scrub the outside of the pan.

Skirted toilets are a different shape from a traditional one, having straighter sides that are much easier to clean. These types of toilet are also rimless, which gets rid of another horrible job!

If you choose a toilet with a concealed cistern, you'll also find yourself with one less component to clean.

Wall hung vanity units

Traditional basin stems are areas than get particularly and are a pain to clean. A better option would be to install a basin that is sunk into the drawers or cupboards below.

The wall hung variety mean that, not only are you not having to clean the underside of the basin, the floor underneath the unit is also easy to sweep or mop up.

The more you can wall mount in your bathroom, the easier it is to keep clean.

Minimalist mixer tap

Separate hot and cold taps can look great in a traditional bathroom, but they can also take a bit more effort to clean looking clean.

Choosing a minimalist mixer tap with straight edges and rectangular styling makes cleaning a breeze. Plus you've only got one tap rather than two to worry about.

Choosing brushed satin finish is also a popular idea as it removes effort of having to keep the surface shiny as you would with chrome-plated or polished stainless steel brightwork.

Corner baths

If you're thinking of installing a whirlpool bath in your remodelled, low maintenance bathroom, then choosing one that can fit in the corner could be a perfect option.

Corner baths are great at maximising available space, plus their have less exposed panels that you would get with rectangular or freestanding baths.

Because the bath would be sat against two walls, you'd only have to worry about cleaning the curved bath panel in from. Fewer nooks and crannies, ver easy to keep clean.
