Choosing radiators or underfloor heating for your bathroom

Choosing radiators or underfloor heating for your bathroom

By Benjamin Clarke | Published on 23rd October 2018

When choosing a heating system for your bathroom and house in general, a key factor to consider is how you want the space heating to be distributed. More often than not, the standard solution (and quite often the cheapest) is to employ the use of wall-hung radiators. However, more and more people are opting to install underfloor heating in their homes. While this option may initially be more expensive than conventional radiators, it has the potential to save you money in the long run. Both types of heating installation have different benefits and are great for different reasons. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list for each to help you learn more about the options at hand!

Underfloor Heating

  • Underfloor heating is often thought of as a luxury but, as mentioned before, it is becoming increasingly more popular, and more affordable!
  • While initially costing more to install, UFH requires less energy than standard heating meaning that the cost of your energy bill can be reduced by around 20%.
  • Heat radiates slowly and evenly upwards, reducing hot spots and drafts.
  • No radiators hanging from walls.
  • Operates at low temperatures making it more energy efficient.
  • Less controllable that radiator based heating systems, suited to a house that is occupied for most of the day.

Radiator Heating

  • Cheapest and most conventional home heating solution.
  • Good control over temperature and time settings.
  • Wealth of choice and styles to chose from, adding extra dimension to existing decór.
  • The best choice in a house that is not necessarily occupied the whole time, great for sporadic heating.
  • Have to work at a higher temperature and so are not as efficient as UFH.

In conclusion

Both have plenty of great attributes but suited for different living style. Hopefully the points above have helped to lay the options out clearly and will help with your heating decisions!
