Can you use bath salts in whirlpool tubs?

By Benjamin Clarke | Published on 25th May 2021

You can use pink Himalayan salts, Epsom salts and Dead Sea salts in whirlpool tubs. These are lovely salts to add to any whirlpool bath and will really help you to feel relaxed.

It's a very common question that we receive on whether it's ok to use bath salts in our luxury whirlpool baths and we have no problem with you doing it at all. Obviously, whirlpool baths are designed to be the ultimate in relaxation and the body jets contained in all of our baths provide a fantastic dose of hydrotherapy.

Any of the salts mentioned above are an added bonus and can provide relief for skin problems, anxiety and joint pain.

Avoid carrier oils

While bath salts are a great addition to whirlpool baths, it's very important not to use any that come with carrier oils.

Carrier oils are often used with essential oils in order to help disperse the oil around a bath evenly. While essential oils (like rose, cedarwood or turmeric) will evaporate with no problem, essential oils are a little thicker will usually leave a kind of film. Over time, the film can build up and lead to blockages or other problems with the body jets in your whirlpool bath. The impact of the jets will get less and less and the build up of oil could lead to more serious problems for the internals of your bath.

Carrier oils to avoid are jojoba oil, lanolin oil and almond oil.

Avoid bubble bath

Adding bubbles to a regular bath is lovely as it adds a nice texture and feeling of movement to an otherwise still bath. However, it is not necessary to add this feeling to a whirlpool tub as they are already designed with movement and bubbling of the water in mind.

Adding bubble bath to a whirlpool bath will create an awful amount of suds every time you switch on your jets. This can easily overflow onto the floor and create a mess that is time-consuming to clear up. More seriously, the bubble bath solution could start circulating around your whirlpool bath and continue to bubble up upon future uses. This can become very annoying and is difficult to get rid of.

So, in conclusion - bath salts are a great way to increase your spa bath enjoyment. Carrier oils and bubble bath are not and should be avoided.
