Just a few short years ago The Great Gatsby seemed to be everywhere. There was a new film version of the book that came out directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Carey Mulligan. Newspapers and magazines were tripping over themselves with features on how you could re-create the Gatsby style in your home. It seems that the twenties are now the retro decade of choice for the fashionistas. It’s not hard to understand why it was an era of glamour and sophistication and style was its watchword, so we've decided to take another look at that fantastic Gatsby style.

In the 1970′s version there is a scene with Mia Farrow relaxing in her freestanding slipper bath. She is wearing a golden headband and a maid is holding an Edwardian style phone to her ear and mouth. The image says to the viewer that here is someone who lives a luxurious and glamorous lifestyle. But it is the bath as much as anything else that helps to create this vision of wealth and style. If you are going for glamour in your bathroom you have to choose a freestanding bath, it doesn’t have to be a slipper bath but it has to possess allure and charm. Elegance as typified by the 20’s is typified by a reaction to the delicate refinement that had gone before. You would be amazed that just by updating the taps on your bath and basin to a more elegant design can help to give your bathroom a more sumptuous feel.
