Are Whirlpool Baths Loud?
We all value peace and quiet, especially in our own homes. One of the most common questions we hear is: "Are whirlpool baths noisy?" The answer might surprise you. Thanks to significant advancements in technology, the modern whirlpool baths we build at Luna Spas are far quieter than older models you may have heard.
Understanding the Sound of Your Whirlpool Bath
The sound from a whirlpool bath comes from two main sources: the water and the pump.
The Sound of the Water
The bubbling, swirling sound of the water is a core part of the hydrotherapy experience. This is the soothing sound of the massage jets at work. While this sound is a natural and desired effect of the system, we work to minimize any unwanted noise.
The Sound of the Pump
To tackle noise from the pump, we've gone the extra mile. We fit our pumps with anti-vibration rubber flanges and install specialized isolator feet. These components prevent vibrations from the pump from transferring into the floor, which is the primary source of unwanted noise.
How Loud Is a Whirlpool Bath?
To help you put this into perspective, we've compared the typical decibel level of our whirlpool baths to some familiar sounds. The sound of our bath in operation is around 71 dB, which is much quieter than a newspaper press (97 dB) and significantly less noisy than a dishwasher (80 dB). It's slightly louder than a normal conversation (60 dB) but is still well within a comfortable range for a relaxing experience.
Tips for Reducing Noise During Installation
The noise level can also be affected by how and where the bath is installed. A solid concrete floor will absorb sound more effectively than a suspended wooden floor or a stud wall. For optimal quietness, we recommend fitting a tiled panel to the bath and using sound-deadening material on the supporting frame to ensure the most serene and relaxing bath possible.
